A friend shared this beautiful song with me on Facebook earlier:
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Same Love feat. Mary Lambert.

The song brought tears to my eyes.
There was one line in particular that stood out for me:
‘A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are.’
I have been there. I have been that low before. It is why I am so open about my journey of reconciling my sexuality, religion and culture. My thinking is that even if I can reach out to one other person and let them know that Allah loves them, that they can be who they are and still religious and potentially save their life then that would make all the backlash I receive completely worth it.
Thankfully, I have been able to do that with few people alhadulillah and those are only the people that have approached me that I know about. The real and mind-blowing question is I wonder how many more lives we touch in a positive way and never even know it.
